Blast-One Weekly Tips
Tip #64
Make Coating Defect Marking easy and accurate

Locating very small coating defects on large painted areas can be a nightmare for the secondary inspector or the repair crew. Instead of using texta, pen or nothing at all, highlight all defects quickly and easily with a Coating Defect Marker.

When inspecting a painted surface or area, mark each pin hole with a brightly coloured label that can be seen quickly and located easily even in low-light conditions.

The brightly coloured Coating Defect Marker is easy to locate even in low-light conditions .

The label is easily removed after it has been located with the non-stick Lift Tag. The sticker peels off easily leaving no residue which could potentially repel paint or cause extra work or even cause further faults in the new paint coating.

Why use Coating Defect Markers?

Imperfections or problems found during inspections of coating work usually require attention of second or third parties after they have been found — a second opinion of the paint supplier, witnessing of counter parties or just the attention of a repair crew.

In each case it is important the above mentioned spots are easily located even when the original inspector is not around anymore. These vibrant little markers work well, not only on large structures such a ships, bridges and steel construction but also in poorly lit areas such as tanks illuminating the problem of relocating each defect to rectify them.

How, for example, would you describe the exact location of a number of small pinholes, hardly visible (or even non-visible) with the naked eye in a 5000 square meter tank bottom?

For record keeping it is advantageous to take pictures of the problems found. Including the Coating Defect Marker the photograph retrieves immediately the dimensions of the defects against the markers and the writable area on the label allows for extra information to add and show in the photograph.

In a serial production environment, the Coating Defect Marker can be used to identify parts to be reworked increments or the highlighted items which have been rejected and are to be scrapped.

Packed in a dispenser box of 250 labels, the Coating Defect Markers are easy to carry and use on-site. The Coating Defect Markers make life much easier for the Coating Inspectors and for the rework team.
